I am BIG TIME owing an update! Much has happened in recent days and much is on the horizon. Sounds ominous doesn't it? Its not.

Our club took a break at the beginning of July and we ended with a bang by visiting a local National Park about a half an hour from Sorocaba.  We took almost the whole Bible club for this special hike. It was a fun and exausting day and a great way to end our club at winter break.

On July 6 Alexandre, Dawn and I took four of our teens and one of my Juniors to Maringá, Paraná. It was a nine hour trip and our first Missions trip. Those who participated were: Amanda, Dani, Graziele, Alison and Mirela.

The team worked together like a well oiled machine. There was no grumbling, complaining or whining. We had a great time getting to know the ministry of pastor Claudinei and his wife Eleaneu (I don't think that I spelled her name correctly). They are a very sweet couple and helped our stay to be a delight. We got to visit some of the special sites of Maringá. It has over 300,000 inhabitants and is a lovely place. However, what left the biggest impression on our team was the hospitality of pastor and his family and several of the believers who had us for a meal. If you are ever in Maringá you have to visit the Igreja Batista Regular and worship with the nice folks there.

We were able to put on the very first VBS at this small church of around 75. We saw 45 kids hear the Gospel through the life of, of all people, Samson. Who actually came to the final meeting on Sunday! Five children made professions of faith.

We got back late Monday from our Missions trip and on Thursday started our own VBS with 120 kids. Our second day we saw 140 hear the message from the life of Joshua. Today (Saturday) we are expecting around 100. Where has the month of July gone?

On Tuesday we'll receive pastor Jim Watson and his wife Hannah along with Faith Gaskell and Brenda Johnson who will help us with our first ever Music Conference. The team will be with us for nine days and we'll have some fun along with the musical work. So, please keep us in your prayers for the next few days anyway!

Daughter and dog...

About six months ago we discovered that Ann was pregnant and were very excited for she and Jackson. We will have babies on this side and that of the Atlantic. We weren't prepared for that news and we we were even less prepared for the news that our little dog is pregnant. To date we have spent more on the dog than on Annie (don't tell her... Ann that is). Ann has yet to discover whether her baby is a boy or girl. Both ultrasound images were inconclusive. Though I did some further investigation of my own and was startled with what I found. to me it looks as if the baby is definitely a boy and has some resemblance from both sides of the family. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.

Urgent Prayer (part 2)

Does God ever give you a gut punch? He did that just a few days ago when I watched a missionary story from the other side of the world. It was short but poignant, and it punched me in the belly button and brought a few tears too. One thing that shook me was the final statement that the missionary made. He was questioning himself and said, I wonder if what I have done will make a difference. This question comes to a missionary's mind now and again as they ponder how vast God's world is and how tiny one’s work is. As I thought, and identified, with his sentiment, the Lord brought a verse to mind that I had used recently in a youth talk. It was this one in John 12:24, “ Very truly, I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. ” When, in Matthew, the sower sowed his seed, it was the Word of God. Here in John, Jesus indicates that the seed is the life of the servant. Jesus talked of his comi...

Music Conference

This is going to be a long post. Just a few days ago I was trembling in my boots as the First Baptist Church of Lake Orion's missions team was just hours from their arrival. My fears were many because I felt that the weight of success or failure of their visit would fall on me and I could see a tremendous failure looming. I knew that the team would come well prepared and ready to minister. I knew that there would not be a lack of talent and experience on their part. I knew that they would have great expectations I just didn't know how our people would react or if they would attend. My fear was that the attendance would be poor and that the team might go away frustrated. God be praised! God be glorified! God be worshipped! I highlight the previous paragraph because my Father deserves all of these and more. Let me explain. It is a wonderful story. The team, Jim and Hannah Watson, Faith Gaskell and Brenda Johnson, arrived safe and sound on Tuesday, July 19 though Brenda lost he...
