When I was a kid my mom would often prepare cow or pig hearts for supper. I liked it. I thought nothing of eating that delicious meal until I got to the ninth grade and saw a movie on open-heart surgery in biology class. 🤢 The heart is an amazing thing. It isn't that big but it is THE thing that sustains life. You rarely ever think about it until something goes wrong. Yet that miracle of creation is your lifeline. However, in the Bible, the heart is not often described in pleasant terms. This came to light in one of Jesus' conversations with the Pharisees. They had called his attention to the fact that his men had eaten without washing their hands. Jesus reminded them of the following. "What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a ...
