Some Prayers Answered!

I know, I know! God answers all of our prayers but sometimes His answers are, “No” and “wait”. I tend to like the instant or near instant answers. Most recently we’ve been praying for: The return of one of our families The possible receipt of a piece of property for our church English Class at the public school Family Return In a recent update I asked for prayer for one of our families, a mother and three of her sons. They had been forced from our midst suddenly because of a question about baptism. However, before their disappearance we had promised to help them get rid of a couple of their dogs. A nearby store has a Sunday morning puppy fest and give away dogs by the dozens. So, even though our family’s departure was abrupt we had done nothing to provoke it and thus we arrived to give two dogs their first ever van ride to the pet store. In one way we were hoping that the dogs got donated but on the other hand we knew that if they weren’t it would give us another opportunity

PRAYER

Prayer is in ALL caps above because I would ask you to approach the Throne of Grace for us at some time in the next twenty-four hours. We don’t have a problem but we could be at a turning point in our ministry at Faith Baptist Church of Habiteto . Alexandre and I had the opportunity of talking to a lady who is president of the neighborhood association. A few years ago the association was given a piece of land in the middle of the neighborhood for the construction of a family-center and an office for the association. However, because of a lack of funds for construction it was never built. While handing out fliers on Sunday afternoon Alexandre gave the lady an invitation and his conversation lead to her comment about how impressed she was with what we are doing. Ale mentioned our need for land. She said, "Why don't we give you the land we were going to use?" Ale was a bit taken aback by her offer. In an neighborhood where nothing comes free he didn’t know what to say.

Discouraging

Last week was discouraging. We lost one of our most promising teens because of a comment that I made about baptism*. We had a low turnout on Saturday at Bible Club (22) and our Sunday turn out was very very low (8). Ministry is like that, highs and lows . I don’t like the lows! Here are some quick prayer requests for tonight’s prayer sheet : Restoration for João, Marcia, Josué and Jonatas Salvation for Marcia, Luiz, Maria, Maria, Daniel, Daniel (no I´m not repeating myself), Benidita, God’s direction for our church building (location and funds) My English class that should be starting soon in the public school Summer work for Abby and God’s provision for her return to Clearwater in the Fall Along with discouragements came some bright spots . Yesterday, for example, we went to the Federal Police to pick up our “renewed” permanent visas (no that is not an oxymoron). We had applied for them in 2008 but the process became overloaded and took much longer than ex

GREEN DAY and other happenings

Saturday was Green Day at Bible Club! My team worked really hard and because of their excellent effort we finally WON first place for the day. With that win came our first Gold Star! The only problem was that it was the last day of competition before the graduation ceremony to Delta Sector. That happens next Saturday. The kids memorized Ephesians 6.10-17 and all that can say it next week in front of everyone will be promoted to that new level of fun. Mother’s Day was special too. We had a great attendance for the second annual Dessert afternoon. There were sixteen mothers present and several family members. Dawn counted eighty-four total! The above pictures the kids giving their moms little presents that Joelma and Dawn had made for them The Lord is at work but the news is not all good. A mom raised her hand at the invitation on Sunday, two kids came to talk to me about accepting Christ on Saturday after club. Those are good signs. The bad news came when one of our faith

It’s MAY Already?

Our Bible club has been exciting recently after nearly dying. We were down to around 25 kids when Alexandre came up with the idea of changing our theme. We went from “normal” club to Sector Alpha! Just like that. As I mentioned in a previous post we have a weekly Mission that we have to work on as a team. Last week’s task was to bring five kids with the same name to earn our 5000 points and complete the mission. Even though we fell one kid short we still had TWO Grazieles and TWO Jonatas. Three of the four were nearly yanked from their homes by our own Graziele (left). She is our little missionary and always ready to seek out that unknown kid. GREEN came close to winning our first Gold Star but the blue team took the day again. We had over 60 kids at club. The mission has already been given for this week and it included a bombshell for Sunday. All of the kids that came to club on Saturday had to return Sunday morning for Sunday School. EVERY ONE OF THEM or NO points were giv
