These are devotional thoughts from a guy who lives in Brazil. I recount personal experiences and Bible applications with most of my posts. These "thoughts" are mostly for me but if you want to, you can read them too!

Soccer, Soccer, Soccer!
In fact our day was NOT spend playing soccer as you might have expected with the Bob Jones University soccer ministry team here with us for four days. It was spent in ministry. The team ministered all day in the public school just meters away from our church. They sang in English, Portuguese, and gave testimony of Christ saving love in fourteen different classrooms in both the high school and the junior high.
They played several games of soccer during the break time between classes. Hundreds of kids came to the court to watch the games and cheer for the Americans. It was amazing to realize what was happening. The Gospel was being shared and kids were paying attention. I had the privilege of translating for several of the classes and was blessed to be able to help these young men share their hearts with the Brazilian people. Pray for us tomorrow as we enter another public school near the church.
This evening their ministry paid off with around a hundred kids present at church to watch... what else, more soccer. The team did some more singing and gave another salvation challenge. Even the principle of the school came and brought her teen aged son to be a part of the fun!
What are you Worth? Have you ever thought about what you are worth? In investing circles there is a term used to gauge this exact question, it's called Net Worth. You take all of your assets, like property owned, funds in your bank account, clothes, jewelry, car, etc.. You total all of these things. You then take everything you owe, like mortgage, car loan, and credit card debt, and you subtract these items from the first total. This gives you your net worth. That number represents where you are financially. Most people never stop to think about this number because they don't understand anything about it. They never have two nickels to rub together. They live from hand to mouth and know (or at least believe) nothing will ever change so, they fall into the "daily grind" mentality. Psalm 49 should be a great encouragement to such as these. The sons of Korah write about them. These sons write about all of us. They call all people everywhere to listen to their wisdom. Bo...
Graziele / Cris Grazilele (hard to pronounce if you are not a Brazilian) and Cris are getting baptized on Saturday night. Baptism is a big step of faith and these young ladies are ready. Grazi accepted the Lord several years ago when Company C was in it's infancy. She was invited to club by a friend, who has since left, and not long afterwards she opened her heart to the Savior. She is a determined twelve going on twenty year old. When Grazi sets her mind on a task she usually gets it done. Dawn has been teaching her Bible lessons and sewing skills recently and she's noted Grazi's abilities. Grazi plays the recorder in o ur orchestra. Cris is Alexandre's youngest sister. She accepted Christ when her older sister Dani shared her own personal decision a few years back. Cris always has a smile on her face and is a ready helper too. She is quiet but gifted. She is learning to play the violin and is also a part of our growing orchestra. Both of these gi...
Last night, we learned a lot about our souls. We noted that it has no physical weight, but that God created it to last forever. God made man a perfect being, very different from animals. We are different because we were created in God's image, with emotion, will, and "eternity in our hearts," as Solomon mentions in the book of Ecclesiastes. We learn that because the soul is eternal, it will live after our bodies die. Then are two possible destinations for our soul, heaven or hell. There is no middle ground. The body has an appointment with death, according to the Bible, when that appointed day comes, then judgment will come. So now is the day of salvation! If you are reading this post and have never asked for the salvation that only Christ can give, you need to repent of your sin and beg God for mercy.
