Wrinkles

Wrinkles stink! A friend of mine, who was setting beside me at Cantata practice last weekend, took my camera and took a close up of my face. MAN, do I have wrinkles! When looking at “older” people I don't think too much about their wrinkles. But when looking at ME, that is another story.

Wrinkles are really a sign of experience aren't they. They tell of years and years of experiences; some good and some bad. But, before this note turns into an organ recital let me say that God is good! In my reading this morning in Psalm 28.7 I read these words, “ The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

Thank the Lord that He is my strength, shield, help, joy, and praise! I couldn't handle the wrinkles of life without Him.

Last Sunday evening we celebrated high school Graduation. Five of our young people have completed that part of their lives and we had 85 friends and family members (several unsaved) at church to honor them. This Sunday will be our Christmas cantata “The Greatest Gift” and we'll be inaugurating our auditorium. Pray for God's blessing and the moving of the Holy Spirit during this special event.

Ronaldo and Adailza have been approved by the church to begin their Seminary training in February. They along with Sandro and Gislene, from Calvary Baptist, will be moving soon. As I mentioned in an earlier update, if you would like to be a part of their support team please send your tax deductible gift with “Seminary project” (Baptist Mid-Missions, PO Box 308011, Cleveland, OH 44130) in the memo line.I've been advised to let you know that you cannot designate to a specific person but that you can designate to the “Project”. The money will be divided to pay for the schooling of these two families. Your help would be a blessing.

The Habiteto ministry is drawing to a close for this year. Pray for God's specific direction in a continued effort there. Micom, Idianara, and Eliana went to church with Sandro and Gislene last Sunday night and Sandro was able to lead Eliana's parents to Christ on Monday! After our Bible study on Monday night Idianara told me that her mother doesn't want us to come and study with them any more. Pray for a continued open door to this needy home.

Our latest construction project at the church is the platform in the auditorium. It will be used for the first time this coming Sunday. This was how it looked on Tuesday.

Dawn sent out our Christmas letter on Monday so I think that you, our supporters, should have a copy before the 25th. But if not, we pray God's blessing on you during this special time of the year.

Mike

Daughter and dog...

About six months ago we discovered that Ann was pregnant and were very excited for she and Jackson. We will have babies on this side and that of the Atlantic. We weren't prepared for that news and we we were even less prepared for the news that our little dog is pregnant. To date we have spent more on the dog than on Annie (don't tell her... Ann that is). Ann has yet to discover whether her baby is a boy or girl. Both ultrasound images were inconclusive. Though I did some further investigation of my own and was startled with what I found. to me it looks as if the baby is definitely a boy and has some resemblance from both sides of the family. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.

Urgent Prayer (part 2)

Does God ever give you a gut punch? He did that just a few days ago when I watched a missionary story from the other side of the world. It was short but poignant, and it punched me in the belly button and brought a few tears too. One thing that shook me was the final statement that the missionary made. He was questioning himself and said, I wonder if what I have done will make a difference. This question comes to a missionary's mind now and again as they ponder how vast God's world is and how tiny one’s work is. As I thought, and identified, with his sentiment, the Lord brought a verse to mind that I had used recently in a youth talk. It was this one in John 12:24, “ Very truly, I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. ” When, in Matthew, the sower sowed his seed, it was the Word of God. Here in John, Jesus indicates that the seed is the life of the servant. Jesus talked of his comi...

MKs and PKs

A MK is a missionary's kid, a PK is a preacher's kid, and neither are easy roles to fill. Abby (Amy and Annie too for that matter) has the tremendous privilege of being both! Being a PK or MK, I believe, is apt to bring on the BIG-shoes-to-fill syndrome. It is the pressure and trauma of having an aura to fulfill. The same thing happens to movie star's kids (would that be a MSK?). There is the mistaken idea that because the parents are "huge" personalities, the kids are different, and have to be huge too. I grew up in a "normal" family (though some would definitely debate that!). I had a normal job at GM for 22 years. Dawn and I spent many years in "normal" ministry at FBC in Lake Orion, MI . It so happened that God worked in my life to the degree that my family and I became missionaries to Brazil. It wasn't until after our second term that I became aware of the fact that we had an "aura". I never saw it in the mirror for sure! I...
