Time

Time plods on. It stops for only God. It doesn't change velocity it just never stops. Have you noticed?

Some think that time drags and others that it speeds. I hear people say, “Where did the time go?” and others, “Won't this ever end?!” And it is funny because these two comments might come from people who are side by side. Time, however, is the same. It was not invented to run or drag. It was invented to mark days, weeks, months and years.

I doubt that Adam, before sin entered the picture, ever saw a watch. He didn't need one. He knew his responsibilities. He knew where and when he needed to be. He knew when to rest and eat and play. He too had no care about the passing of time because he wasn't about to die. God had created him to live!

Time began to make a significant difference when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. After that act time became a death watch. The ticking of the clock began to mark the years, months and seconds until their death. Whether they cared about it or not, whether they liked it or not the clock didn't stop. It hasn't stopped. It won't stop until the end.

I find it difficult to imagine a time without time. Don't you? We get used to time. We have time for coffee, lunch and dinner. We mark birthdays and mourn death days. We remember when we graduated from highschool and when we began our career. We can still see or feel the joy of each of our children’s entry into this time crowded world.

I remember dates. Some important ones for me are: June 30 (doubly so), October 30, the year 1971, August 1, September 29, April 15, September 22 and January 29.

These dates came and went but left marks. Each reveals an important story. These dates are essential pieces to the puzzle of my life. They probably mean little to you and that is the interesting aspect of time. It marks different people in different ways.

If I had to choose the most important date from the list above I am not sure which it would be. My birth date would be necessary for sure. My death date is as of yet known only to God. Would it be the date that I accepted Christ?

The funny thing is that these dates were momentary. They lasted at the very most twenty four hours. I noted 1971 but that date simply marked my high school graduation year. Granted graduation marked thirteen years of formal education but the termination of those years was celebrated by a two hour recognition and “commencement” ceremony.

I still laugh at how I couldn't wait for commencement so that I could be done with school. When in actuality I was “commencing” my new school life which would last until I leave this earthly bond. That life brought with it rising at five and the daily grind of work in the shop. It was a rude awakening.

God put time constraints on us after the Fall. There was a beginning of this old world and there will be an end. Will the world end in 2012 as some believe because of the Mayan calendars lack of creativity? I can guarantee you my friend that it will NOT. It is coming to an end but it will not end this year.

Though time’s march is steady, constant and unstoppable the earth still has at least one thousand and seven more years to go. That doesn't mean that YOU have more time it just means that the earth has at least that much more.

What about the so called global warming? Forget it! What about overpopulation? Not a chance! But what about the atomic bomb?!! Nope! Not going to make a difference. That meteor that is going to crash into New York city?? Doesn't exist.

If Jesus Christ comes back today, at this very moment, the world still has one thousand and seven years left. The Bible speaks of Christ’s return for His own. It will happen in the twinkling of an eye. The dead in Christ will rise first and then the redeemed will meet the Lord with them in the air.

That moment will be definitive for multitudes. It will mark the beginning of seven years of trouble and trials the likes of which the earth has never seen. Billions will die and destruction will rule. The antiChrist will be revealed and will try to bring his evil order to the impossibly disordered.

After seven years of horror his time will be up and Christ will return with His own to reign for one thousand years. During the Millennial reign of the Son of God justice will be swift and sure. Yet even that reign will be marked by time.

Maybe I’ll continue this paper tomorrow. If I have time.

If this is the kingdom of God, do I really want it?

If this is Kingdom Living, Do I Want it? Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. In a study of the Sermon on the Mount to this point we might be tempted to say, “I don’t want to be that happy!” If this is Kingdom living then I want to go to Disney World. This place is depressing.  What Jesus describes here seems to highlight all of the ...

What? How?

27 “But to you who are listening, I say:  Love your enemies,  do good to those who hate you, 28  bless those who curse you,  pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek,  turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat,  do not withhold your shirt from them.  30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.  31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.  32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.  33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.  34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.  35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.  Then your reward will be gr...

Life's Twists - Esther

The fascinating account that we call "Esther" has intrigue, love and mysterious purpose that highlights God's sovereign control over every aspect. In ten chapters, we meet the ruling King of Persia, his evil courtier Haman, Mordecai, a dignified and stubborn Jew and his niece Hadassa. Each player has an integral part in the tale. That story goes like this.  The King has a magnificent party that goes on for six months! Finally, in his desire to show off his lovely wife, he calls for her to come dressed in her crown. She refuses, usually a crime punishable by death, and is banished from the castle. The flustered King asks his men what he should do, and they decide he should seek a new bride. The process takes months, but finally, Ester is chosen. Her new position will be a critical part of the happy ending of this story.  Enter the villain Haman, who hates Mordecai so much that he eventually plans to kill him. Before that evil deed, however, he hatches an even more cruel ac...
