Battle of the Gods

The battle for the planet took place over 3000 years ago in Egypt. What is going on there these days is nothing in comparison. Just a skirmish. That battle was between god's. It was epic. Rarely to be repeated.

The battle of the gods was over a bunch of slaves. This slaves were in a very bad situation. They had been in slavery for four hundred years. They had been slaves 171 years longer than the United States has existed! What was the big deal? Why were these slaves so important? These weren’t just any old slaves. These were the descendants of Abraham.

So what! Again I ask why did the gods have to war over a bunch of seemingly worthless slaves? They warred because one of the gods had made a promise. Abraham’s God had promised him a land, seed and an eternal blessing that would affect humanity. That promise had not been fulfilled. Thus, the war. These slaves were destined to form a nation.

Actually it wasn't much of a war on one side of the proverbial coin. It was Pharaoh against Jehovah. Egypt’s main man against God. Time and time again God was wiping out Egypt’s list of false god’s with plague after plague. But each time pharaoh refused to bend. He began to realize that he might be outnumbered when his magic men couldn't duplicate the boils. Though why he would even want duplicate boils is beyond me.

Have you ever thought about the duplication of the plagues? The river turned to blood and the magicians made water turn to blood. The fleas and frogs came and all were duplicated by the magic men. Why on earth anyone would want more flies, frogs and fleas is a mystery. This tells us that there was more going on here than just pharaoh vs God. Satan was involved in this conflict. There was unprecedented stuff happening.

God would not be stopped or topped. The final plague would be unreproducible. The death of every firstborn was impossible to duplicate and it affected every home.

In Brazil death is as common as everywhere else on earth. If you have been born you will die. However, death here is mourned differently. Screaming and wailing are often a part of the sad scene at the funeral home.

Just the night before last Dawn woke to the sound of someone being murdered! I hope that you have never heard that sound. “NO! NO! HELP ME!! HELP ME! DON'T CUT MY THROAT!”

It is a terrifying sound at anytime of the day but this night it was punctuated by the hour,  2:30 A.M.! In the grog of the moment she bolted out of bed and flipped on the light and slipped on her moo moo dress and sprinted from our bedroom. By the time that I came too she was gone. I was left groping for my pants and looking for a pair of shoes. However, within moments she was back. (Look for the rest of this story in our update)

The point for this article is the sound of death. The sound of death is terrifying. You never forget it. Now multiply that sound by every house in the country; It makes you wonder how the Jews grumble and forgot God’s power.

The battle was apparently over and pharaoh had lost his most prized possession, his first born son. The Jews were forced to leave Egypt as God had said that they would be. Did pharaoh learn his lesson. No. Have you learned your lesson? God is all powerful! Trust him don't fight against God.

Daughter and dog...

About six months ago we discovered that Ann was pregnant and were very excited for she and Jackson. We will have babies on this side and that of the Atlantic. We weren't prepared for that news and we we were even less prepared for the news that our little dog is pregnant. To date we have spent more on the dog than on Annie (don't tell her... Ann that is). Ann has yet to discover whether her baby is a boy or girl. Both ultrasound images were inconclusive. Though I did some further investigation of my own and was startled with what I found. to me it looks as if the baby is definitely a boy and has some resemblance from both sides of the family. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.

Urgent Prayer (part 2)

Does God ever give you a gut punch? He did that just a few days ago when I watched a missionary story from the other side of the world. It was short but poignant, and it punched me in the belly button and brought a few tears too. One thing that shook me was the final statement that the missionary made. He was questioning himself and said, I wonder if what I have done will make a difference. This question comes to a missionary's mind now and again as they ponder how vast God's world is and how tiny one’s work is. As I thought, and identified, with his sentiment, the Lord brought a verse to mind that I had used recently in a youth talk. It was this one in John 12:24, “ Very truly, I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. ” When, in Matthew, the sower sowed his seed, it was the Word of God. Here in John, Jesus indicates that the seed is the life of the servant. Jesus talked of his comi...

Church Isn't a Place

Many times we say, I'm going to church on Sunday. What some fail to understand is that "church" isn't a building. I remember our pastor saying, "the church is an organism, not an organization." He was teaching us the Bible truth about the church. Jesus Christ is the head of the body, and the church is his body on earth. Another pastor once said, "God's hands have human fingers." This is a difficult concept for some to grasp, pun intended. However, it is important to understand that God accomplishes his work through human beings. He uses us, the church, to do his will and work. It's not that if we don't do his will that he is stymied. But he does use willing servants. To be in the church, one must be a part of the family. You cannot be in the church if you don't have the Savior. The church is not for the lost; it is for the edification of the saved. The lost can come and hear the message of salvation. But the church is made up of t...
