Pray Like it's a Good Thing

Luke 11:9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

The Lord teaches us not to give up in our prayers. We're to ask, seek and knock on that responsive door. So why does it always seem so hard to pray?

For me it's just laziness. I'm always going to pray some other time. That other time never comes. Well, it might come if I really need something. However, praying takes time and doesn't always seem to bring results. Well, it does bring results like: yes, no or wait. Not one of these responses Is guaranteed to come quickly. Thus we tend to do stuff in our own strength and forgo the mystery.

When we do, we short circuit the blessings. God still completes his will, it's just that we're left out of the equation. Therefore the urgency that Jesus put on his injunction. We shouldn't pray to be blessed but when we do pray we will be blessed. Kind of strange in that respect. We know that praying is a good thing. It is a commanded thing. It is an effort that promises perfect answers to life's questions and problems.

Thus, ask, seek, knock and you'll not regret it.

God Made Clothes

And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. Gen 3:21 I have always heard the following explanation of this verse.  Because Adam and Eve had sinned, they died spiritually. They also lost the right to be in the Garden of Eden and were cursed in other ways. For example, they had made clothes out of fig leaves, but God sacrificed a lamb; thus, God shed blood and made clothes. This sacrifice of an innocent lamb symbolized what Jesus Christ would do in the distant future.  Is this what you have heard? I don't know; it seems like this interpretation is stretching what Moses wrote in the above text. The text says that  God made clothes for Adam and his wife from skins.  We see no blood, we don't know what kind of skins, nor can I imagine God making an animal sacrifice. Did God have to skin animals to make these clothes? Or could he have just made them like he had everything else in the universe just a little while earlier?  To th...

Life goes On

IN the next 24hrs GOD Will Surprise You Financially. If you believe, type: YES. I saw this silliness in a Facebook feed just moments before my mission contacted me to tell me that my account is in the RED! I laughed out loud!  Those posts are made to help us see how ridiculous we are when we click on them or send an AMEN! I hope that you don't. So many somehow believe that God is a gene type that will spring from the bottle when we press our praying hands emoji together and send us just enough money to prove that he has everything under control.  Job was a just man that proved that Facebook can be wrong now and again. He did all things well and lost everything. He was left muttering and sputtering along with his cheesy friends for most of his epic poem book.  Life happens, and we don't know why God does much of what he does. A friend of ours is in stage four cancer, and everything seems to be going wrong. What is up what that? Another friend's little girl has been s...

What Are You Worth?

What are you Worth?  Have you ever thought about what you are worth? In investing circles there is a term used to gauge this exact question, it's called Net Worth. You take all of your assets, like property owned, funds in your bank account, clothes, jewelry, car, etc.. You total all of these things. You then take everything you owe, like mortgage, car loan, and credit card debt, and you subtract these items from the first total. This gives you your net worth. That number represents where you are financially. Most people never stop to think about this number because they don't understand anything about it. They never have two nickels to rub together. They live from hand to mouth and know (or at least believe) nothing will ever change so, they fall into the "daily grind" mentality. Psalm 49 should be a great encouragement to such as these. The sons of Korah write about them. These sons write about all of us. They call all people everywhere to listen to their wisdom. Bo...
